I work at UAL as an Assistant Archivist for the Archives and Special Collections Centre.
In that role I also serve on the Academic Liaison Group and Community Engagement Group, within the wider Library Service.
In my archive practice I am really interested in the intellectual (and critical) activity of archival arrangement and description and also in digital preservation and access. The main motivation for me is around providing better access to collections, and thinking about access more broadly.
With that in mind I also have considerable experience in community engagement, co-curation, building partnerships and event organising. I have been particularly focused at UAL ASCC at thinking about how to overcome barriers to access. I recently made a new Access Route document and video for the ASCC.
I also paint and draw a bit when I get the time and have a background in making and thinking about art. At the moment I am interested in formal questions around figure v ground and playing with colour and composition. Not sure if this relates to archives at all, except perhaps indirectly through my relationship to art history. But maybe other things will emerge.
I have also considered the relationship between digital and analogue painting in my MA Dissertation. So I may come back to thinking about emulation and digital preservation in archives, which was first motivated by that research.
I also have done some freelance editing, research assistance.
And am curious about teaching and student experience! During my own student life as an undergraduate and postgraduate, I struggled a lot with chronic illness, recovering from different complex surgeries and the impact of this on my mental health. So I am sensitive to the different needs that students have. I’d like to think about how to support students going through stuff.
